Loving Lately 9.28.17

I’m back with a Loving Lately! I hope to do this every month, because honestly I just love hearing about little things that people are enjoying that I might enjoy as well!

Every month I’ll also be putting together a playlist, which you can find at the end of this post. I used to have one ridiculously long Spotify playlist, but thanks to the suggestion of a much wiser friend, I now make one for each month. You know how you kinda have a honeymoon phase with music? You like, no LOVE, a song for the first few weeks, and then it just grows old? That was the problem with my super long playlist. Now I have a go-to playlist full of songs I’m still obsessed with. Plus, when I’m feeling nostalgic, I can play back past months’ playlists and feel like I’m traveling back in time!

My new iPhone 8

Sooo I just had to start with this. This is a “loving lately” post and I am truly, madly, deeply in love with my new phone. Okay, okay, I take that back, because you’re not supposed to have an attachment to your phone. But coming from an aging 5c straight to an 8 has been a whole new world. Every time I use it I am just enchanted by the speed and fluidity of every swipe. The camera is crystal clear, the screen is oh so bright and big, and touch ID takes a big weight off your shoulders.

Now that I’m done gushing… from a practical standpoint, this phone has done a lot for me. Instagramming is so much easier now, and I can send texts and e-mails without my keyboard freezing up. Plus, when I don’t want to run and get my camera, my phone serves just fine. I am one happy duck!

(Also, the commercial and the song are fire)

Oil training (again!)

I was doing really great with oil training my hair (where you incrementally increase the amount of time between washes in order to get out of the habit of daily washing). Then, I went on vacation, and we swam in the pool every day. And I was NOT about to have chlorine in my hair for a week. So once I got back home, it was kinda back to square one. However, I’ve gotten back up to a week without washing, and I am loving it!

It honestly saves so much time. Do you know how happy it makes me to get into the shower and realize that I don’t have to wash my hair? Today I took a 5-minute shower. Yes, that’s a bit of an anomaly because I was running late, but this is the kind of stuff that’s possible with oil trained hair, people!

Balancing Your Hormones by Dr. Claudia Welch

I really need to start reading more! Every time I sit down to read, it just feels right. I was a voracious reader when I was little. I read more than my parents would have liked me to read, but I just loved the stories so much. Now, school has crowded out most of my personal reading. When I do, I’m now more of a non-fiction kinda girl.

Lately I’ve been reading and taking notes on this book, and although I haven’t gotten through much of it, I already am fascinated by it. I love how Dr. Welch weaves together Eastern and Western medicine, and that combined approach just makes sense. Yin and yang, prana, chi, etc. they all just make sense with the scientific knowledge of our body’s hormones.

Quizlet app

Back to school, back to memorization! Ah yes, Quizlet, a dreaded friend. Although this wonderful app is directly linked to studying and exams and other not-so-fun stuff, I can’t deny how helpful it is.

They’ve got this amazing feature called “Learn” where it basically teaches you an entire deck of flashcards without you having to do anything (except learn, of course). You can even set a date that you have to know the material by, and it’ll adjust to accommodate for that. The app will give all sorts of different types of questions, and at the end of each round, you’ll find out how many cards you mastered, and what percentage of the deck you’ve got down pat. You just keep repeating those over and over again, and you’ll learn it all eventually :)

Text Twist

My biology teacher holds a Text Twist competition every Friday between the classes. Text Twist is an online game where you get six letters and you have to rearrange them to get all of the possible combinations of words. The teacher sits at the computer and we yell out anything we think of. It gets very competitive. We’re pretty sure second hour is cheating because their score is always nearly 10 times bigger than anyone else’s, but we’re aiming for second place ;)

America’s Got Talent

America’s Got Talent is my shoooow. I can hardly believe it when people tell me they don’t watch it. During the summer, I was a devoted viewer. I absolutely love every stage of it - auditions, judge’s cuts, etc. I didn’t watch much of the end because school started, but I watched snippets of my favorites. I am SO happy with how the finals went. Darcie Lynne, the ventriloquist won, and Angelica Hale was in second place. Those two made my jaw drop every time I saw them, and it is so nice to see kids winning. I feel so proud that I watched them from the beginning! *happy cries*

Riverdale on Entertainment Weekly

I wrote about Riverdale in another Loving Lately post. America’s Got Talent is my reality show, Riverdale is my non-reality show. I watch, like, two shows, but I love love love both of them. I’m not going to explain all of Riverdale but in a nutshell, it’s based on the Archie comics and the first season followed a murder mystery. The first episode of the second season airs on October 11th! When I saw their feature in Entertainment Weekly, my excitement just skyrocketed. I mean, look at these photos!! Isn’t the lighting perfect?

Every month I’ll also be putting together a playlist, which you can find at the end of this post. I used to have one ridiculously long Spotify playlist, but I now make one for each month. I got the idea from my friend, who is a genius. Now I can have a list of songs to go to that I actually enjoy and am not sick of yet, and I can look back at all of the months and see how my tastes changed!

So, what have you been loving this month?

Hope you enjoy! x
